Comparison · MES module on Ignition
ElectronIx Trace compared with Sepasoft MES
Sepasoft is a strong traceability module for plants already standardised on Ignition. That platform dependency is the whole comparison.
Where Sepasoft MES is the better choice
Stated first, on purpose. A comparison that concedes nothing is an advert.
The Ignition ecosystem
If you already run Ignition for SCADA, Sepasoft sits inside a platform your team knows, with your tags already defined.
Protocol breadth today
Ignition brings a mature driver set — OPC UA, Modbus, Siemens, Allen-Bradley — that has been in plants for years.
Integrator network
A large pool of certified integrators. Trace has one engineer.
Track record
Independent review coverage and years of installations. We have neither yet.
Where ElectronIx Trace is
Each of these is something you can test before you buy.
No platform tax
Sepasoft needs Ignition licensed and running before the traceability module does anything. Trace is one service and one database.
Traceability is the product, not a module
The recall query, the hash chain and the genealogy schema are the core of Trace, designed around those two queries rather than added to a SCADA platform.
Tamper-evident by construction
Append-only enforced by database triggers with a per-unit hash chain. A record that can be edited by anyone with a SQL prompt is a weaker record, whatever the UI shows.
Runs without an integrator
Routes, limits, label templates and stations are configuration. The route simulator lets you validate the whole line before hardware arrives.
Priced for a single plant
No platform licence, no per-seat cloud tax, no integrator retainer.
The verdict
Already committed to Ignition with an integrator on contract? Sepasoft is the low-friction answer. Starting from nothing, buying Ignition to get traceability is a large first step for a small first line.
Choose Sepasoft MES if
You run Ignition already, your integrator knows it, and you want traceability inside that platform.
Choose ElectronIx Trace if
You are not on Ignition, you want traceability without adopting a SCADA platform to get it, and you want the record itself to be tamper-evident.
Want to check the claims rather than read them? Run the recall query on a sample dataset or see what drives our price.
